September is a traditional time for students from all walks of life to turn their sights to education. SCORE’s September line-up of six seminars provides a wide array of learning opportunities designed specifically to help the small business entrepreneur launch or improve their existing business potential.
Each year, about 6 million people attempt to start a business in the United States. Of those, about 25 percent fail in the first year, while about 50 percent fail after five years. Studies show that a person with five or more hours of business mentoring is more likely to start a business with greater economic impact in areas such as revenue and job creation.

The September line-up starts off with two new seminars that are designed to respond to specific issues of importance to entrepreneurs today. Other popular SCORE programs will be offered throughout the month. Here’s a brief summary of each seminar in the September schedule:
September 8–Planning For Success and Your Business Plan- A well defined business plan is critical to the success of your business. This a new seminar which covers resources available to the new business entrepreneur as well as the steps and content of a successful business plan. Bill Haman will be the course instructor. He is the former SCORE chapter chairman and president of Business Franchise Consultants,LLC. His areas of expertise include: consulting, franchising, general management, and purchasing. The seminar will be held at the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, 3805 Edwards Road, Suite 500.
September 10–Hands on Management in Tough Times — This new seminar covers techniques for managing your business to optimize profits and minimize losses in challenging times. The course instructor is Marty Densmore who is currently Partner, MK&D Associates, Quality Practices. Densmore specializes in a wide range of business areas including, manufacturing, structural and civil engineering, six sigma lean manufacturing, financial leverage and cash management, marketing and statistical analysis. The seminar will be offered at the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati 3805 Edwards Road, Suite 500.
September 12–Starting and Growing Your Business–What you should know about starting and operating your own business. Seminar leaders are Brien Hope, Bill DiGrezio and Mike Crossen whose leadership experience at Fortune 500 companies includes marketing, sales and general management. The location for this seminar is the Hamilton County Business Center (HCBC) 1776 Mentor Ave, Norwood, OH.
September 19–QuickBooks for Small Businesses- This seminar explains the basics of Quickbooks so you can get going right away doing your bookkeeping and controlling of your finances in-house. The session combines lectures and actual practice sessions on computers. SCORE and the ACTS Learning Center are co-sponsoring this day long seminar. Crystal Walker, a certified Intuit/QuickBooks instructor will lead the seminar.
