Have you every dreamed of running your own business? Some people think it’s just that, a dream. Now is the time to make your dreams come true. The New Year will be starting soon and it’s the perfect time to take the steps to make your dream become a reality.
1. Brainstorm
Take some time to think about what you like to do in your spare time. Think about what you are currently doing that could be changed into a business of your own. If you work in the administrative field, you could become a Virtual Assistant. If you love to help people you could become a coach. Think about these types of things and write them down. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s stupid or not. You never know what it could turn out to be.
2. Deciding on a business
Once you have your list of ideas go online and see what you can find as far as a business that matches. If you love jewelry why not sell it and make money. If you feel keeping the environment safe is important, then you should consider selling safe cleaning products. Find several businesses that you think might work for you and start investigating them.
3. Investigation
You need to look into a company to make sure you understand what will be required of you, what you will need to do to make money, and how the compensation plan works. These are important to your success. If you start working a business not knowing these things, you will be upset or stressed. You will need to know how much it costs to get started and if you have monetary requirements each month. It’s also important to know when and how you will get paid.
4. Getting started
Once you find a business that will work for you, it’s time to get started.

What Is a Home Based Franchise?
It should be obvious to everyone that a home based franchise is “a franchise business you operate from your home.” But there is more to it than this simple explanation. By combining the elements of working from home (no outside office expenses, no commuting time, flexible hours) and the benefits of running a franchise business (instantly recognizable brand, tried-and-true business plan, extensive training), people who purchase home based franchises join 500,000 other franchisees and gain a share of the $813 billion in annual sales, which represents 35 percent of all U.S. retail business.
Benefits of Owning a Home Based Franchise
Working from home is the dream of many prospective entrepreneurs. It allows you to spend more time with your family and oftentimes arrange your business schedule around family type events that you would have otherwise missed by working in an office or a retail location. Many franchisees begin on a part-time basis before gradually seeing their business grow into a full-time enterprise. It is also a more personal way of operating, since you end up living with your franchise much more than the average small business owner.

Working from Home is Desirable
If you have ever dreamed of working from home, you’re not alone. You could be a stay-at-home mom (or dad), a retiree, or simply someone who wants to ditch the corporate rat race once and for all. There is something about that short commute every morning - from bedroom to study, perhaps three dozen paces in all - and the ability to spend more time with your family, that is incredibly appealing. With the proliferation of the Internet and ever-greater prospects for telecommuting, the time has never been better to find a work-from-home business opportunity.
What is “Employment”?
Anyone who works for a living understands the nature of a job. You perform work, and someone pays you for doing so. You may earn money based upon the number of hours you put in, the amount of business you bring in (compensated as sales commission, for example), or a monthly or annual rate based upon a variety of duties. If you are legally classed as an employee, your company will make various deductions from your wages - for federal and state taxes, FICA, etc. - and possibly also offer benefits such as paid vacation and sick time, or health care. There is also an employment situation known as the “independent contractor.” While you fulfill a specific relationship for a business - selling their products or services, contributing articles, or providing maintenance - you are not paid as part of the payroll system and typically bear your own responsibility for paying taxes, health insurance, and so on. Most work-from-home operations, even legitimate ones, fall into this latter category.

There are several trends that are driving forward the popularity of working from home. The main trend is the improvement of communication technology, mainly the Internet. The Internet allows people to access information and communicate with people all over the world in an instant. For employed people, this often means accessing company databases remotely and for the self-employed, this means marketing products, services or an opportunity online.
Another trend that is driving the popularity of working from home is people’s quest for a different lifestyle. People no longer want to work 40 or 50 hours a week for a boss, just to pay the bills. People are generally seeking more control of where and how they work and whom they work with. This brings us on to another trend …
A much improved scale and efficiency of logistics.

Adjust your clocks as the world of work is changing. People in their thousands are heading home from the day job to build a business at nights and weekends. It’s what we call the 5 to 9 economy and it’s a great way of starting a business as it means low cost and low risk. Are you interested in joining this growing group of part-time and spare-room entrepreneurs?
Starting up a business in your spare time is, I would say, the best way to start. You give yourself time to research the market, test out your products & services, build a presence on the web and, critically, make some sales. And you can do all of this whilst holding down a job that continues to pay the bills and cover your overheads.
Consider a few small investments to get you going:
Find dedicated space in the house - it’s important to keep home as a place to which you return from work and unwind so find a dedicated space / room which becomes your home office and in which you can comfortably be in ‘building my business’ mode.
Technology - a growing range of products are designed to help the 5 to 9 entrepreneur. Create a home on the web through a blogging tool like blogger.com or wordpress.com, sell your products through sales platforms such as etsy.com and keep in contact with customers with a BlackBerry and follow-me numbers. These products and gadgets mean you can keep in regular contact with your business in a way that’s not detrimental to your job.
Develop relationships - use your time to develop relationships with possible partners, suppliers and an all-round support network. Much of this can be done online by visiting business sites and industry-specific sites where you can keep an eye on new ideas coming to market and follow what customers are buying.
